Have I ever mentioned my love of yummy Port wine sangria? No? Well, it’s time I did then. I did the whole study abroad thing in Spain when I was an undergrad, and I fell in love. Not just with sangria; the whole country was amazing. Alas, I cannot incorporate the siesta into my busy lifestyle, and my husband doesn’t enjoy Spanish tortilla the way I do, so the only thing I really keep with me is sangria. I guess I can’t complain though. I mean, who doesn’t want to reminisce with a glass of booze in their hand?
The thing about sangria is you can pretty much put whatever you want in it. Seriously. I add apples to mine, but not because they’re a perfect fit with limes and oranges. It’s because I like to eat sangria soaked apples. If that doesn’t sounds like your cup of tea (I mean, your cup of sangria), leave them out. Add other fun fruits. Put no fruit because you hate them all. I don’t care. But whatever you do, don’t skip the wine or the brandy! They’re the best part. Is this a traditional sangria? No. There’s Sprite in it, don’t kid yourself. But after you’ve made it, you’ll want to bring it to a housewarming or potluck, that’s for sure!
